A tiger cub born in a German zoo and rejected by its mother has found a friend in Bessi the wirehaired dachshund. I hope someone told Bessi that this kitty will be larger than your average house cat.

Passersby keep trying to save Mayflower the pony from her own stubby dachshund-like legs. Apparently they see her standing next to her long-legged friends and believe her to be stuck in the mud.

I was born a poor, speckled pup in a place called Puppy Mill. I stayed there in a little concrete box for a year, then some people from the hoomane society came and got me. Four years ago today I picked out My Boy at the hoomane society and life finally got good.

Daisy came from the local humane society and is reported to be a Dachshund/Yorkshire terrier cross, or Dorkie. Arlo is a very mellow dude and sleeping is his normal state. Daisy...well, not so much. This is one of her rare quiet moments.

What is Long Little Doggy?

Here at Long Little Doggy, we are fond of dogs that are short in legs, long in body and super-sized in personality. Once you have a dachshund, you are hooked, forever condemned to a life of screeching, "Oh, a weenie dog!" any time you see one accompanying a human in public. Of course, you must then approach that person and explain that you, too, are owned by a doxie. Stories of antics are exchanged. Pictures are produced. There are references to granddogs and doggy aunts and uncles. And the other person absolutely gets it.

What addictive substance do these dogs exude that causes otherwise reasonable people to behave in such a ridiculous manner? Scientists have failed to pinpoint the cause, but we here at LLD are definitely hooked and we're hoping to find others who share our habit and who want to share pictures and stories about their own "sausage dogs".

For a little teaser, here is the inspiration for Long Little Doggy, our little rescue dachsie, Arlo. These are his baby pictures, as he's a man in his prime now. We'll share his story in future posts.

Long hairs, short hairs, wire hairs, dachsie mixes are all welcome.
